Why our website is retro

If you’ve been to our website, versatackle.com, you may have noticed that it’s a little... retro. We wanted to take a moment to talk about why.

1. We are focused on building what matters most.

At some point, that will be a sleek website that has great marketing and is visually appealing. But it isn’t yet. What matters most now is that we build a product that is valuable to our customers and has features you want, like moving autonomously from one online conversation to another. We are still building our core product. You are welcome to come use it! But we also know it is very much a work in progress. We want our earliest customers to come because they want to help us build something great, not because they saw flashy marketing.

2. We are building our website in-house

We are being as thoughtful as we can about balancing the cost of building against the cost (in dollars, as well as control) of depending on structures outside our company. Right now, that means our website is all built and designed by the founders. This may change in the future as our needs shift, or we may grow to the point where hiring website design specialists is a priority in our budget.

3. We are careful about partnerships

There are many companies to choose from that make it easy to make your website beautiful, why not use one of them? We spend significant time vetting each company we decide to align ourselves with. We read Terms of Service and Privacy Policies start to finish. We prioritize companies that care as much as we do about environmental footprints, data privacy, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. It takes a lot of work to see what’s out there and choose partners we feel good about. We may end up partnering with a website builder in the future, but for now we want to prioritize choosing the right partners for the core components of our product.

All of that said, we know design and visual impact matters, so we've made some recent improvements and we plan on continuing to get better as we go!
